Interview with Leddie MC

First I will start by asking who would you say your biggest influences are?

Ah, my influences change so much, besides the cheese of saying my family, and my husband who push me to do my best all the time, huge influences of me growing up were the likes of Eminem, Jay Z etc. As I've grew older, its more the people that helped me grow and shaped me into who I am as a person, rather than a musician, or an artist.

You have released two albums  "A Piece of Cake" and "Raise a Glass" do you think there will be a third album in the near future?

YES... I'm actually producing it myself again as I did with a "Piece of Cake" as I think "Raise a Glass", whilst I enjoyed making and writing it, kind of turned into something I didn't really feel was how I wanted my music to sound as a whole piece. This 3rd album is 100% on my own terms, from writing to recording and building every track piece by piece.

Your two latest singles "I'll Be There" and "Who Are You?" always seem to go down well at your shows. What can you tell about these two songs?

I feel like "Who are You" lets people let out any energy they have pent up and I think they love that, there is no better diss than asking someone, who the fuck are you?... I'll be there is definitely more personal and I'd like to think the majority of people have someone in their life that they think this way of, and they can relate to it a lot.

At gigs and festivals there's not many people performing in the style that you do. Is it important to yourself to standout at shows?

To be honest, I've never thought about it. I've not worked on any image or particular sound to really 'stand out', I just do what I do because I enjoy it. I do hope my humor in-between tracks etc makes me stand out a lot more than the majority of performers because I've been to shows where the band play their set with nothing in-between and I think telling little stories, or making little jokes in between tracks can help make a performance when the music is so concept based.

The music you perform also allows you to collaborate on certain songs with your fellow artists. You've work with a number of other talented singers and rappers is the anyone you think you'd like to collaborate with?

I'm always open for collaboration with anyone, along as we can gel, and its effortless. There's plenty of local rappers or singers that I do really like, but I don't see how we could work, whether it would be a clash or sounds and it'd be too much of a compromise.

What have been some of your favorite gigs from 2019?

I loved supporting Bahamadia at the Cluny, The crowd were great and there was so many people that weren't there to rap, at a Rap gig!! ...Also, I gotta say Soap Box with Eve, just because the crowd she brings is always so humbling.

What are your goals for 2020?

I'm going to get this 3rd album finished, mixed and mastered and pick some singles and get some video ideas together, then look at the release. Other than that, I'm kind of taking a step back until I'm ready and have everything I need completed.

Finally if you could recommend five local acts for people to check out who would you choose?

Ok... Hmmm, Firstly, Eve Conway. Komparrison. Be Quiet Shout Loud. Martha Hill, and Eyeconic
