Independent Venue Week had very much every venue in Teesside putting on top gigs all weekend. My choice of gig was this one at The Georgian Theatre in Stockton. I have never seen She Drew The Gun perform live before and the announced support was also enough to get me to go down to this show. I turned up early to make sure that I could get a ticket at the door. When I got to the venue it was already full of excited fans waiting for the live music to start. The first act was Darlingtons very own Jodie Nicholson. Jodie has continued to impress many people since the release of her very first album "Golden Hour". Usually at a gig like this I worry that the more acoustic acts set will get drawn out by the sound of the audience but this was not the case at this gig. Within the crowd you could hear a pin drop. Which was great to hear because Jodie played a fantastic set filled with songs from the album. I have listened to the album many times and have become very familiar with the songs. Switching from keyboard to guitar she played every song perfectly and they all sounded huge coming from the speakers of The Georgian. The song "I Must Be Dreaming" was a stand out for myself. The version on the album as an epic sax solo. This version was more a striped back version but still had the magic and chilling jazz vibes that the album version has. She finished the set with "Losing Track" a more upbeat almost indie/pop like song that has become a popular choice many playlists over the year. The second act was Eve Conway who over the past year has also impressed many of the local live music supporters after performing shows like Radio Ones Big Weekend. Her very creative style always goes down well at any show and this was no different. She started the set playing some of the more chilled acoustic songs and even playing a brand new song. This went down well this the audience who were still as quiet as a mouse at this point. She put her guitar down and played her cover of the Nirvana hit "Come As You Are". She is probably the only person who can play this song as popular as it is and make you forget it's a cover. The mix of her own backing vocals played on a loop to the tune of the song and her stunning vocal performance is something you really need to witness. You get strong Amy Winehouse vibes for the performance. She finished with her latest single "Vanilla Ocean" a song that involves a similar style with the loops and some beat boxing for good measure. We then came to the headline act of the evening She Drew The Gun. This as I said was my first time seeing this band so I had no idea what to expect but with nothing but good feedback from some of my friends I was really looking forward to it. The bands over all sound had such a wide range of influences from high energy synth pop sound to a modern Indie sound. From start to finish the band at everyone in the room entranced to the music and the on stage performance. They felt that they have a very nostalgic edge to them maybe taking influences from some 80's disco and pop songs to 90's Brit-Pop. They had everything that any live music fan would enjoy. The whole night was so much fun getting to see two local act showcase their talent and getting to witness on of the country biggest up coming bands do what they do best.
